RJW Electrics Ltd is a family run business based near Oswestry that provide a range of electrical services throughout Shropshire and the surrounding counties, including commercial and domestic installations, working within schools and hospitals, as well as Solar PV, renewables, and EV charger installations, to name a few.

At the start of 2024, RJW joined the Shropshire Council led programme “Sustainable Warmth Shropshire”, a Government funded scheme for off gas households to improve energy efficiency while combatting fuel poverty. Under the scheme, RJW install Dimplex Quantum High Heat Retention Storage Heaters in replacement of old bulky, inefficient storage heaters which customers find are expensive to run and provide inefficient amounts of heat. The new Quantum heaters are intelligent and use algorithms to calculate and deliver the required heat, provide cost savings and are highly controllable via an app.

Supporting the local community in Shropshire

Social value is imperative at RJW, with local community and environmental factors always in the forefront. Providing work in Shropshire, for those who live in Shropshire not only reduces emissions and CO2, but it forms a part of a much bigger community value within the local area. 80% of the workforce lives in Shropshire and RJW like to pride themselves on being part of a community, offering services to those who need it, but also offering work placements to the next generation to learn new skills.

Work experience opportunities for local students

Throughout Spring 2024 RJW offered 5 students from North Shropshire College and Shrewsbury College Group a week of onsite work experience, to experience the trade, and ask any questions about their future career choices. The students all exhibited great work ethic and interest in working withing the sector.

Welcoming two new apprentices to the team

The combination of recent work experience with the addition of work from Sustainable Warmth Shropshire, RJW took the decision to employ two new apprentices, Toby and Josh, who joined the team in September 2024.

Toby and Josh will spend 1 day a week at Shrewsbury College Group, to complete theoretical and practical elements of their course: Installation Electrician Level 3, while attending site for the rest of the week representing RJW to gain hands on experience with a fully qualified electrician. Many of the qualified electricians started at RJW as apprentices and have worked their way though their studies to gain the relevant qualifications they uphold today.

A big welcome to Toby and Josh!
